About IDENTIQ

We built the system
we wish we'd had
at seventeen.

IDENTIQ exists because South African students deserve more than a one-afternoon test and a list of careers. We built a 12-month operating system for identity and direction — the kind of support that changes trajectories.

"Most students leave school having been tested on everything except who they are. That is the single most important gap in their education, and the one we set out to close."
The IDENTIQ Founders
Origin

Why we
built this.

IDENTIQ began with a simple observation. Across private schools, township schools and everything in between, Grade 12 learners were being asked to choose university degrees — and careers — with less information about themselves than the average adult has about their phone settings.

Some schools could afford external psychometrists, who would deliver a thick report and disappear. Most could afford nothing at all. In both cases, nothing continued afterwards. No development. No follow-up. No system.

So we built one. Five validated frameworks. One integrated profile. A twelve-month programme. A dashboard for counsellors. A portal for parents. Pricing that works for public schools. And a pilot cohort willing to try something new.

IDENTIQ is a South African answer to a South African question. Built here, tuned for CAPS subject selection, priced for our schools, and designed for the reality of our classrooms.

60%
of SA university students change their degree within the first two years.
1 session
of career guidance is the average a Grade 9–12 learner receives across all four years.
0
integrated, 12-month, identity-first programmes exist for SA students today. Until now.
Principles

Four beliefs
that shaped
the system.

Belief 01
Identity before direction.
Career choices made without self-knowledge are guesses. We do the self-knowledge first.
Belief 02
Structure beats inspiration.
Students don't need pep talks. They need a year-long programme with milestones, deliverables and feedback.
Belief 03
Rigour is a form of respect.
Five validated frameworks, not a BuzzFeed quiz. Teenagers can tell the difference — and they deserve better.
Belief 04
Built for here.
CAPS subjects. SA universities. Local pathways. Global quality, South African context.
The Team

Two founders.
One conviction.

Christelle van Jaarsveld
Co-Founder
Former teacher. Spent years watching capable learners choose careers in the dark — and decided the system had to be rebuilt from identity up.
Marius van Jaarsveld
Co-Founder
Systems expert. Designed the integrated assessment engine, counsellor dashboard and parent portal that make IDENTIQ an operating system, not a test.
